Hiking Escudilla Mountain – Alpine, Arizona
Escudilla Mountain was bowl head-born Americans because of its characteristic shape. It is based on the eastern edge of the Mogollon Rim in Arizona in the White Mountains of New Mexico borders. The mountain is 4 hours from Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Located in the heart of the Apache National Forest, which combines one of the largest national forest in the country, bordering the Gila National Forest, the area in square miles is about the size ofYellowstone National Park
The head Escudilla mountain trail is located at a height of about 9400 '. You can easily drive to the starting point and start your hike from there. The journey begins with the wind through an enormous Aspen Grove for the first mile, then gradually coming up to a large comb, without trees, which are aptly named Profanity Ridge. The next half-mil is the steepest part of the path as you climb slowly Profanity Ridge. Time on the hill, the traveleris rewared with a fantastic view Terry Flat, Mount Baldy and other sites of interest areas. The trail then begins a descent into another meadow, and then rises again across the lawn. After a short walk three miles the trail climbs steeply again to the final declaration of the summit to push the fire lookout tower on top of 10,877 'elevation. Hikers will enjoy the breathtaking views to the west of the surrounding mountains and lakes.
Last Wednesday I was lucky, a good friend, with his guideWife, son and daughter. My friends are there in the early forties, and are 11 children to 9 years. They had not acclimated to high altitudes, so the wind was short, but after an hour and a half were all able to summit Escudilla Mountain. We managed to complete the entire hike in 3 hours.
