During the robbery Backpacking in China

Some years ago I went in February in North China through the Gobi desert. It seems worse than before, I traveled by train, although temperatures outside of 10C less during the day. It 'was amazing to see snow in the Gobi desert.

During this trip I have been in cities like Hohhot, Lanzhou and Xining later. From there my plan was to travel south in a predominantly Tibetan and Muslim territory. The idea was to have my first stop in Linzhia and then in Xiahe, where the famous LabrangMonastery, one of the largest monasteries Tibatan in China, but outside of Tibet and then Langmusi, Zoige, Songpan and, finally, Chengdu.

The morning I went to the bus station, bought a ticket and then on the bus. There was only a bus down in this little bus station.

Storage is always at the top of the bus, with a piece of film that rain, snow and other weather elements. So I pulled my backpack and made sure it was wrapped properly, so as not to lose.Satisfied, I got my seat on the bus, waiting for it to be every minute.

I looked out the window and … so anyone walking with a backpack black and purple. I could not, could it? I walked off the bus and I saw my package was gone. The boy was so, he did.

My backpack contained almost everything I had with me, saving money, camera, dairy products, I had a small pack per day, plus, of course, the clothes they had. All my rolls of film were Gone Too (henceI do not offer a picture of Xining, I am not of this trip). None of beautifying the Gobi desert, Mutianyu Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and other sights I saw earlier this week around Beijing.

The driver was too excited. Police arrived and found someone to help me with the translation of what happened. The bus was scheduled to leave at 8 clock, but at 11, the bus was still there. At one point, bus driver came to me and asked me if it was sufficient toThe bus trip would go. After a discussion with the police, I decided that the bus could go without me (although I would not have my return ticket).

The staff was very friendly and helpful guy who put my story in China for an official, who then speaks through a very helpful lady who speaks English (he was an English teacher, although I would learn from their students, doubts were correct English, is translated by her as his English was very basic).

After all police work, Ibut I have the documents for insurance. It was written on paper thin, but made the return journey, and I got a refund for my goods from the insurer. But how to account for materials, books, even a camera, you can not replace, took a photo at a specific time.

The lady asked me to join her and her family for dinner. He told me he was embarrassed in the exercise of their compatriots. I told her that this behavior can happen anywhere, luck and success herehours.

Dinner was at his house, which is rare in China, instead. Usually you bring your friends in a Chinese restaurant. But this was my first experience with Chinese hospitality. The family is not rich, but the special occasion she had chicken feet (my first experience with chicken feet purchased) and other delicious dishes. After the pain of the loss of my backpack, this day was a good conclusion statement.

Remains the memory of the first day of my first tripChina. More importantly, the memory of the theft and get help when you really need. I've always been grateful for the people who helped me that day.

Following this trip, I had a small backpack that China's military is never on the roof of the bus. A few months after my return cam in Holland, returned to China and returned with a backpack. And yet, I had most of the pack on the roof of the bus. Most of the time was not enough spacebus had a great comeback though. The day in Xining was the only time you stole my backpack. bad day, maybe, and in many ways, I learned a lesson. But I have to help solve problems, Yin and Yang, you lose a few wins. Believe me, I have to virtually win the day.

Since those days I traveled mostly by bicycle, many places, including several years in China, but I never went back to Xining.
